ILLU 714- Drawing for Illustrators

This course explores drawing as the key mode of expression for the illustrator. The course begins with

refreshing and strengthening observation skills, mark-making technique and interpretation abilities. Other

areas addressed include creative expression, gesture, attitude, movement embellishment and exaggeration.

Students are encouraged to develop individual and personal approaches to drawing within the context of

illustration. The course reviews fundamental issues of value, mood, composition, proportion and perspective.

Prerequisite(s): None.

Course Goals: The following course goals articulate the general objectives and purpose of this course:

1. Students will learn to draw and design man-made and natural subjects in all kinds of situations.

2. Students will be able to construct subject matter in a believable manner, indicate folds, and define

subject and ground in a unified, interesting way.
